Ok here it is; the latest Genious fix and wonderful addition for us Sho-bud guys with Barrel tuners.
This is a Rod I convinced our great John Coop to make and I just received the proto-type and it is PERFECT. This is a Metal Hex end affixed to a stainless steel rod to turn our barrels with;> instead of the inferior metal tuner that simply sqeezes/screws onto the rod end and WILL come loose eventually and tuning will slip and or it will pop off..ha.(had that happen a week ago and I even work on these things..ha.)
Well I'll have NO MORE Of THAT...ha...
This metal hex end is affixed/bonded to the rod and will NEVER come off; and you will break the rod before that hex end will come off or slip..and you and I both know you will never break a rod..ha..
Also with this hex end; you can now use your regular open end 3/16" hex driver/tuning wrench; that is so popular with the nylon tuning steels(so you can toss away the allen wrench ).
I'm sending John Coop all my Rod measurements now and I can't get them on my Sho-bud Fast enough....This is IT Man....every barrel tuning sho-bud should have these rods> HANDS DOWN.

Order all your new barrel turning rods from John Coop RIGHT NOW; or a swear on your next gig; that one of your old metal tuners is gunna pop off..ha...

Ricky, is the depth of the new end to the same specs as the old one. I think if it were any longer, it would not fit in my case.

Jon; I suggested to John Coop that they be 3/8" and that's what they are...and now they stick out flush with the endplate as opposed to sticking out past the endplate like the old metal tuners..ha...
Remember; when I say PERFECT...that's what I mean..ha...in every way man.

I saw your post about the new hex rods. They're something that's long ovedue. Do you know offhand how much the rods for a single-10 would cost? I'd e-mail John Coop, but I sometimes have trouble getting messages back-and-forth on "Outlook." If the cost isn't too high, I'd like to set-up the old SB 6140, I told you about a few months back. Thanks for giving us all the "heads up".

Yes you'll have to get with John Coop about the price; as that's his deal and we haven't discussed it. I just ordered all my rods and never asked how much; as I'll pay WHATEVER for these rods as that to me is the most reliable thing one can do to their barrel tuning Sho-bud> hands DOWN.

Thanks Bobbe; as that means alot coming from you(my original sho-bud mentor) and John and I have been discussing stuff almost every day and have more cool things a-coming(I haven't even broken the ice with some more ideas I have for John..ha.)as John is a Master Tool-maker and he is impressing me with his work.

Great stuff, Ricky. I often wondered why someone hadn't done this.

Now just figure out a way to accurately tune those second barrels on rods that have two pulls (without going under the guitar), and you'll have it all knocked!

Rick; that's easy..ha.
The main thing is the amount of spring sticking out of the end of the barrel on the barrel that has the most distance; as it should be very short(a nub)> so it will clear when you engage the shorter pull on that same rod. Also; there should be no slack on when any of the barrels engage and that is done by making the stops stop the pedal or knee travel just at the note or a tad sharp of the note your tuning(as the compression of the barrel spring is all the slack you need).
That is the most problem I see when I get barrel tuning sho-buds over here; is the player has too much slack between the puller(or rack) and barrel when sitting idle.
Once set up properly(timed stops; particular spring tension on given return springs and certain raise springs on or off> the barrel tuning Sho-bud will play perfect and you will rarely have to tune the changes.

Ricky,you bet JOHN is doing some great stuff for us sho-bud owners. question is that little washer part of the hex,or a extra washer in front. metal or nylon?? man i can't wait to get started, my wife has been really sick,i had to take some time off.I will be back going soon i hope.

Farris; No, absolutely NOT!! What is does do, is get rid of any metal clank noise and gets rid of any metal wear on the hex and finger that can occur and gets rid of any binding when turning and .....well shall I go on??ha.....

Hey Cool Neil; but remember, I INVENTED this rod and John Coop made the dream come true..ha..
I just played two gigs with my new barrel tuning rods in there....and OH MY GOSH....it is a Dream and no more worries about the old metal tuners coming off or slipping or anything. And with 1/8" stainless steel rod; I'm noticing even more of a possitive Non-flex/tension pull....>about as smooth and accurate as anyone can imagine/wish for.
This to me; is the greatest thing since sliced bread; for the barrel tuning Sho-buds HANDS DOWN!!!
