We spoke in Dallas about the new Bill Lawrence pickups you were useing and that they would be available soon. What is the lastest update on these pick ups? C.B.

C.B. I haven't heard any updates on when they will be released. I know they are backed up with orders.

These pickups are actually a re-release of the original version of a 710. They will have stainless pole pieces and a ceramic magnet, whereas the modern version has alnico 5 pole pieces. Basically they are just like a 705 only with pole pieces.

Randy thanks for that - how do they compare tonally to the standard 710 ?? Brighter, or a little more full sounding ? Presume you have one on your new Zum Hybrid SD10 ?

These are sweeter in the mids and low end, more like a single coil. The current 710 has what Buddy calls more "grit" in the low end, which he prefers. They both sound great and it's not a 'day and night' difference between the two. They both have about the same output, hot! I prefer the original version with its somewhat mellower mids and low end.

As they say, "Your mileage may vary."

Thanks Randy - any idea what the model designation will be when they're available ?
And how would they compare with the XR-16 ?
