Emmons S-12

Hi. I'm playing a festival in Minot, ND in September and looking to rent (or possibly buy) a pedal steel for the gigs. I play U-12 guitars (preferably Emmons p/p) so if someone has one available let me know!
I'm also interested in other 12 stringers if possible. Heck, I'm even interested in lightweight S-10 steels for this.

It's getting harder to travel with steel guitars so I'm checking options..... :-)
Regards Sveinung

Are there any Emmons pp U-12's? I have never heard of one. Before I got my Kline U-12, I talked to Ron Lashley, Sr. and he wasn't sure if it could be done or not. Something about room for all the changes, or some mechanical limitation. This was a long time ago, probably the early 80's. He had not built one before, so maybe he built them later.

Sorry I am off subject, but just trying to learn something.

George,

I know of one factory original Emmons U-12 PP right ere in Portland and I've seen other examples as well.

Not too long ago, I converted an Emmons ST-12 Ext E9 to a U-12. They are not for the faint of heart...

Hey George K....
As for Emmons U-12s I've only seen one push/pull example that I let get away (stupidly) a few years back. I was on the way to St. Louis to Scotty's convention and stopped in Orange, Va. to Billy Cooper's steel store. On the floor was an S-12 black mica Emmons P/P with 7 floor pedals and 4 knee levers. The left knee had a LKL lever and a long verticle lever instead of a LKR. Just like the one Jeff Newman used. It was probably more like 12 or 14 years ago because thinking about it, the guitar was priced at $1,200 if I remember right. This was on a Wednesday and I should have made a deposit on it but I was going to pick it up on the way back from St. Louis but when I stopped by on the return trip it was gone. To bad, that would've been a real treasure.........JH in Va.

Back in the 1980s I converted my S-12 push/pull to an E9/B6 Universal. It was Derby Red. It was not an SD-12 body.

It lives in the Netherlands now.

Last I knew, Jim Palenscar had at least one S12 push pull. It wasn’t set up for the universal tuning but that’s not to say you wouldn’t be able to hunt parts down to do it. He may also still have a D12, and you’d have parts enough for sure if you wanted to take the back neck off. Try Jim, he’s a member here or go to his website steel guitars of north county.
