I'm always amazed how the backing band at this show can provide this level of musicianship for 12 hours a day!

I would be wiped out after one hour

Go Cat Go!!! Smooth playing and a great sound. I was there for the entire set and it was a perfect start to the day.

One interesting thing is that he set the volume pedal at the beginning of the set and didn’t touch it for 30 minutes. Very effective use of two feet on the C6 pedals. It almost convinces me everyone else is doing it wrong!

And a nicer guy you will not meet.

Steve is a great guy, and a unique talent!

That was a good day.Nothing like sitting in the ocean waiting for a wave,and talking to my C6 mentor about chord theory,two of my favorite things.Thanks for all the help you've given me.

Great stuff. Enjoyed it immensely. Pedal steel playing wonderful standards on the C6 tuning. Just terrific delivery by Steve and all involved.

Sure miss hearing good music like this that we used to get at the conventions. Made my day

Rick - that's twice in two days that I've heard you play bass. You have great touch and I could almost be persuaded that it's your 'first instrument' were it not for the fact that you're one of my favourite steel players.

Does this group hold the record for having the most pedal steel 'subs' in reserve???

Roger... actually in many ways, it was my "first instrument".... I always loved playing the bass part!

Steve is a terrific player - I was glad to catch him last year, and hopefully again this coming year!

As far as the band, there’s a reason I beg these very guys to accompany me during my weird little sets - they can play anything, they can turn on a dime, and their playing really pushes me to dig deeper and play beyond what normally comes out of my steel..

Phoenix is lucky to have them for the show, and we are all appreciative of how supportive everyone is of some different approaches to steel guitar music.

Thanks to all of you for all the nice words,it really means a lot to me.Getting compliments from all you great players is really special,thanks again.I want to give credit to the band for making me sound better than I am.That's the best band I have ever played with,by far.Two of the best steelers in the world,Rick and Doug backing me up,that's hilarious.I was more nervous playing in front of them than the audience. I was knocked out by Harry's playing,I had no idea he was that good,and Dan played to perfection.A huge thanks to them.I also want to thank Wes Bakken and John Hensch for recording the show,they sure work hard,and do a great job.A final thanks to all my friends(you know who you are) who pushed me into doing a set,I never planned on playing in front of 50 steelers,but what a blast!

Just want to send out a special thanks to Rick Schmidt for helping me with my set,getting that great band together,for getting my songs on the forum,and for giving me the nerve to do a set. Thanks also to Troy and the SWSGA for letting me play

great post and playing thanks so much!! I also use two feet when playing C6, not that I can play like steve...

I just love to play the boo wah in combination with my 5 pedal, Ive read alot of people calling the Boo as a novelty, I use it like I use A+F on the front neck with a lever and then noodle using the 5th, (hence the two foot approach)

again I'm 100% winging it but it sure is fun!!

I agree totally. I was fortunate to be at Cat's show that year and he knocked it right out of the park on every tune. Just super playing, with taste, style and technique. Looking forward to the next chance to hear you, Cat.
