Had the CD a while but finally listened to the whole thing. The Time Jumpers (Hughey on steel) "Jumpin Time".

My God I can't believe how good he was here. Not just technically but every bit of it is so very tasty. He's the most featured soloist on the album (and it's a live album). It sounds like mostly all on C6.

Released in early 2007 and I think he died later that year? Maybe I don't get around much but I'm just blown away. I'd encourage anyone who doesn't have it to check out this album. And I think Mr. Franklin took his place.

Anyways I'm inspired and just wanted to share. Plus there's Ranger Doug.

If you think the CD of that show is good, check out the DVD. Highly recommended. Every band member is exceptional, and John Hughey is incredible. The way virtually every member of that band watches John in reverence during his solo says it all. Almost as good as it gets.

His tone and the emotion that he drew from his instrument remains unequalled to this day IMHO. Truly a master in every sense of the term, still my favorite player.

Agreed. My all-time favorite player.

And besides that, he was a nice guy.

I met John on several occasions and he always greeted everyone as a long lost friend. He, and Jeff Newman were on a show in Saluda SC and I asked John to play "slowly" and was sorta shocked when he said that he didn't know it.His next, and maybe last CD had that song on it, always wondered if maybe I may have been the reason for it being on the CD.

I don’t know how I missed the Jumpin’ Time CD or DVD, but I happened upon the DVD on Ebay a while back and bought it. Like someone else said, I knew John Hughey was good, but I didn’t know he was THIS good. I saw him a LOT at conventions etc and he played on this project like I had never heard him play before. I was just dumbfounded every time he took a break. I liked what Andy Reiss said “No one in the group is an egomaniac, and they don’t want to be the best player in the room, because if John Hughey is in the room they definitely are not the best in the room”. It should be required listening for everyone trying to learn to play the steel guitar.
