Hi to all. I recently joined and am trying to learn the art of the pedal steel guitar.
Kind of frustrating. There isn't a teacher around to show me the moves. I put an ad for a teacher in the local music store a few months ago but no calls yet. I am struggling with a good book and a couple of videos.
I really enjoy reading all the posts and it gives me moral support.

Hi Wil, welcome!
I dont have a teacher either, but a fellow pedal steel player suggested I pick up Tim McCasland's beginner video. Put in the time to practice what is taught on that video and you sure can learn a lot.
And pick up a copy of Winnie Winston's book for sure...

Welcome Wil, don't give up, you'll get it. Like Kenny says get the Tim McCasland video, I started out with one of them.

Hi Wil: Welcome to the forum. I have played in Lake Linden and Calumet with Joe Perreault. Do you know him? I was going to play this weekend with him but right now he is not doing well with his diabetis, he just got out of the hospital.
What kind of steel do you play?

Yes, I know Big Joe. Met him several years ago. I have both of the Tim McCasland tapes and Bruce Bouton and I do have the Winnie Winston book. What I lack is some more discipline. I have a Maverick I bought in St Paul a couple years ago.
Thanks for the warm welcome, people!

Will go to your country music night clubs and see if they have a PSG player they may or may not then the only other option is to have a long commute, go down to billy coopers for multiple days or find a teacher and schedule multiple days, you will learn so much from a teacher that it is worth it, you can curb bad habits and pick up new habits heck have a vacation. Just listen on the forum the good players stand out email 'em and hook up! videos do help but they can never replace a teacher and that is good you see this, jeff newman courses are good as well as billy coopers courses I personally like. What are you playing? CARTER D 10
