I have been playing 40 years and never broke a C6th string.

I actually had a 10th string, low C come unwound at the ball end while playing. Shocked the bejeebies out of me.

I'd be surprised. They don't get anything like the workout of 3 and 5 on the E9. The most-used changes are lowers, not raises.

I’ve broken the 2nd string a couple of times.

10th string, maybe only once.

I was wondering that about 10 years ago when I changed the strings on the bottom neck. Figured it was about time, since they'd probably been on there for 20-30 years. Figger I should be good to go on C6 for another decade, at minimum.

On the guitar I use to practice, I'll have maybe 200 hours on before changing strings. I break string 4 occasionally.

If I recall correctly, I've broken most of them at one time or another. :\

Ive broken them. A lot of my knee levers work both necks, so there’s that.

I play a lot of C6, but I think I also change them less often , which is part of the story.

. . . 10th string, low C . . .
Yep — that one. Shuto strike/karate chop technique. (Tragically, that was probably one of my all-time, top-three C6th licks.)

Maybe one or two times in all the years I've owned pedal steels. I think it was string 10 for me also.
