"Ridin' The Rodeo" - Vince Gill - Paul Franklin Steel

Post by Jeff Garden »

Here's a look at Vince Gill's song "Ridin' The Rodeo" from the album "When I Call Your Name". Vintage Paul Franklin steel from 1989. There's no steel break in this but for folks looking for steel fill ideas at the end of lines there's almost 20 here to keep you busy. Lots of nice swingy C6 sounds on E9. My friend Alex Rehfeld (all the way from Germany!) and I teamed up on this one. Hope it's close to what Paul actually played - this is our best effort. I'm sure it 's close enough to fake it in a noisy bar :)
Questions, comments, and corrections always welcome. Here it is on youtube:

Richard,

We’ve discussed both alternatives. What would be the benefit to walk up three frets instead of just easily dropping down two frets and than squeeze the B + C pedal? The last option feels more comfortable and punchy to me :-). In my opinion it remains a matter of taste which alternative you choose.

It’s a different sound when you move 2 strings.
