Playing in the key if C# in the C6 tuning allows for some fun stuff with the open strings. Also, I wouldn’t have expected it but I really like the Matchless Lightning for a lap steel amp.

I too am happy to hear these instruments sounding so good (I've got a deposit down that I don't think I'm going to regret). In the various videos I've seen so far, there's a very transparent, pure tone with a lot of sustain.
I've been playing with cheap Vox wannabe EL84 amps mostly lately (Bugera/Crate VC)...I like them for steel and I think yours (sort of the reverse, a boutique Vox style) sounds lovely.
