Russell that's a tough call with so many variations. I love a Fender Twin but I play through a Peavey Session 400 with pleasing results. I have 2 Peavey E115 speaker cabinets and with the right setup they sound great. Also had good results with a Peavey special 130 with a 12 inch speaker. So I think it's a matter of needs at the time. |

I have tried a 12" along with a 15" with different amps but nothing compares with the two 15's I just got with the Peavey Session 115 and the extension speaker......my opinion....clark |

Single 12" or a 15" works best for me. I use a single NV112 Amp. |

As usual, it's what works for you and gets closest to whatever that sound is you have in your head. I wonder though, whether those players who favour 15s or just use a bass amp anyway are those who play more C6 or just use fuller voicings in their playing.
It's not just the notes we play that tax the speaker, but also all those difference tones we unconsciously generate when we play chords - so the speaker needs to handle the extreme bass region to keep the sound clean even when we're playing four-part chords low down on the C6. If you play nothing but two-part E9 none of the above matters. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

As far as I can tell 12 inch speakers sound better than 15s when I play low chords on the C neck. Better definition, clearer midrange and more responsive. 12 inch speakers have plenty of low end. The difference between 12's and 15's is not tonal range. Difference tones are generated as a byproduct of the odd numbered partials combining when you play different strings at the same time. Those tones/notes have nothing to do with a chord being played. BTW: I use difference tones consistently in more experimental performances and 12's work great. _________________ Bob |

I guess my thinking is out of date. Come to think of it, my bass amp (that I use for playing bass and rehearsing steel) has a 10" speaker! Amazing what they can do nowadays.... _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!
