| Yes, it is a humbucker. I was about to explain that it is called the 'sidewinder' because of the way it is wound and somehow relate that to the single polepiece thing but I realize that there is NOTHING I can say that won't reveal my ignorance on the subject so best to keep my mouth shut. But yes, humbucker. |

| Yeah--I've got a 912 that reads around 28-29K (12 string pickup will have more winding or at least more resistance for an equivalent output) so that sounds right. |

Bill Lawrence does not wind pickups to a DC ohm resistance. He uses other parameters (AC and magnetic parameters) for his pickups. No two pickups will have the exact same DC resistance but they have the same AC parameters and will sound the same.
The DC resistance (as measured with an ohmmeter) is only the DC resistance of the wire. It can be a general reference between pickups from the same manufacturer but can't be compared between pickup manufacturers. e.g. an Emmons factory single coil pickup wound to, for example 19K ohms will not sound the same as a 19K DC resistance pickup wound by some other vendor. The type of winding (loose, tight, crosswound, etc) the actual wire characteristics and the characteristics of the actual magnets all come in to play.
Even pickups of the same vendor can vary. My 71 Emmons stock single coil pickups both had a different DC resistance but they both sounded the same (same response). |
