I was thinking about Buddy the other day and thought you all might enjoy the performance/interview video I made when I was putting together my most recent book, "The 333 Book" subtitled "333 Licks, Tricks and Techniques That Every Guitarist Should Know."
This was in 2008 in Buddy's basement. A wonderful day with the best there ever was or will be.

Mike Ihde -
Thanks so very much for re-releasing this video.
Your visit to Buddy's basement may have been in 2006, as Ernie Renn has photos from the same day.
Your interview is a very special piece of documentary & archival footage.
You can tell by the smile on Buddy's face as he played that he truly loved making music on the steel guitar.
My Best Regards-
Ron

Thanks Mike! What a GREAT piece of history preserved. Buddy was the very best anyone could ask for. Mike Johnson said it best once " everything we play has already been played by the master, Buddy Emmons" All of us are following in his footsteps. If you have any more footage, I'd like to see it.

Fabulous.
That's got me scurrying to my guitar to work on chiming!
I can't define the essential quality of his single-string playing. His attack is so positive and definitive, somehow. 'Timid' wasn't in his vocabulary.

That was wonderful! Miles beyond what I can understand, let alone play, but so beautiful to listen to. And so special to get an intimate peak into his personality. I love how he clearly pleases himself a few times while he's playing. The whole things was great!

Just watched it again,,,and again,,,and,,well. I guess heros come and go,,,"the king is dead, long live the king" so to speak,,,but to me Buddy will always be "pedal Steel Guitar". Seems like I worked forever on his (and Jeff's)right hand technique,,,finally achieved what I feel is a fairly good facsimile,,then other techniques come along, which are GREAT,,,but I guess I'm just stuck in the sound of that era. I know Buddy is quoted as having said he blocked with whatever means necessary,,,but it seems that the shape of that right hand, the "palm" in such close proximity to the strings was predominant and that thumb and middle finger crossing over at lightning speed,,,that is the sound I hear when I think "steel guitar".

That was a real treat to watch. Thanks for sharing that, Mike. Those are some good questions too. Do you have any more footage from that day, that you could share with us? As you might guess, we'll take anything with Buddy in it!
