Peavey Session 2000 best kept secret? I have a few questions

Hello,

I have a chance to buy a Peavey 2000 from an older local player who has not played in years. He wants to sell it because he no longer has a steel. It's probably been 'off' for a decade, and I'm sure it's stock. I suspect he didn't play it much due to its complexity.

There is hardly any info online about this amp. I've done some research on the effects module (transfex pro?) but cannot find a manual for the amp itself, or a preset list.

I'm expecting to try out the amp tomorrow night - figured I would do a factory reset (down and to the right, and power on?) with his permission. It'd be nice to have a few suggestions going in.... Smile

Also, anything I should look for specifically as a red flag? According to him, it has 'all the goodies'.

He wants $350 for it...

I can't comment on the specifics of the amp because i don't have one but they are interesting. If it were me, I wouldn't do a factory reset unless there was a problem with the electronics. You'd never know what kind of presets are stored in there (and who created them) if you clear out the processor before you get to try them.

I have a manual for the Session 2000 . I also have the midi controller and the PX 300 amp to go with it. I also have a copy of the Presets and I also have the card. Lemme know if I can help.

I would be concerned doing a factory re-set would wipe the programs. I would NOT do that if it were me.

I'll leave the presets be and see what is there. I sure wish Peavey had a manual on line but I believe the manual is with the amp.

That '2000' isn't the amp he is talking about. That's just a power amp. He's probably looking at a Session 2000.

I will take the honor of creating many for the Session 2000 amplifier. I created many(not all) of the presets on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in our amphitheater here at Peavey Electronics using my Emmons Lagrande guitar and the various personal instruments that are noted in the name of the presets. The majority of the steel presets were created by many of our endorsement artists during that period of time as well.

I advise that you remove the chassis and check the battery as it probably needs replacement prior to firing the amp up!

Is there a potential for damage to the amp if fired up without a charged battery?

It is a solder in type that looks like a small battery sitting on a pedestal on top of the circuit board.

Spent last evening jamming and played the 2000... wow what a difference compared to the VOX AC5 I've been playing through...

I sort of scanned through the presets, it has the controller which clips to the leg. Lot of great tones in there but I will have to look at the whole stereo/mono thing as many of the effex are overwhelming and it seems to be missing some higher frequencies on many presets.

The thing that might be a deal breaker is the volume. I was playing it at 0.1 and if I even touched the knob it went out-of-control loud. I'll also have to adjust my pedal action as it seems much more sensitive but that's on me (and RTFM)

It does have the manual, in print and on a CD.

I'm in no position to 'review' the amp, but if I can get a decent volume range out of it, I'll buy it. It's in great shape, has wheels and the controller. Damn it's heavy!

Any thoughts?

It sounds as if your 2000 needs servicing. I recommend that you remove the chassis by removing the top panel four Phillips screws. The amp chassis can be removed through the back of the cabinet. Send it to;

If the internal battery(that retains the memory) begins to leak, it could damage the amplifier beyond repair(if the leakage is severe). That's when you need a technician.
