Wanted 8 string Square Neck Dobro
Looking to purchase a quality 8 string square neck Dobro. Please forward details, price and pictures via forum, thanks in advance.
Please contact Jim Adams adamsresonator.com , who recently made me an 8 string resonator in a 22 1/2 " scale. Very high quality at a reasonable price. Also, does acoustic square neck guitars. He can make what you want. Ph: 281-350-4160,
Spring, Texas.
Thanx,
Jim

Richard, you capitalized "Dobro" - does this mean you are literally looking for a Dobro brand guitar, or is it an 8 string resonator in general as in Jim's example of an Adams?
Erv Niehaus has a very clean 8 string OMI Dobro from the '70s for sale here:

Mark thanks for information re the OMI, I had already spotted and checked out Erv's advert. I was looking for a brand like Beard or Sheerhorn as I already have a Beard 6 string Mike Aldridge Special but thanks anyway.
Regards
Richard

Sounds like Richard is willing to spend the money for a modern U.S. made instrument, though the produced-in-China Gold Tone/Beard is a good value.
A couple builders where a used 8 string guitar will pop up occasionally are McKenna and DeNeve.
I don't doubt that there are luthiers out there who have made one or two 8 strings, but the only ones I can think of where you can actually order a new one these days along with Adams are Beard ( the Mike Auldridge 8 string) and Todd Clinesmith. In Todd's case, if you can't find one used be prepared for a relatively long wait.
I don't believe Tim Scheerhorn ever built an 8 string, and they don't do any 8 strings at National in the newer production Scheerhorns. National does a lot of custom work, maybe it's possible they could be talked into building a Scheerhorn 8 string spider bridge resonator. In the former design under the National brand, they made some 8 strings.
