Rick I got this old Sho Bud today I thought I might flip it but holy moly she sounds incredible an plays like a dream it’s going to be a keeper!! The aluminum necks rap around the changer . Just thought u might clue me in on the history. It has the original country gentleman Chet Atkins finish from the Sho Bud era. Thanks in advance Johnie

Johnnie, I'm not Ricky, but I can maybe help a little. Aluminum necks makes it a Pro III. These were first made in 1975 (according to Duane Becker's "Field Guide to Sho-Bud Pedal Steel Guitars". It has the two-up/one-down changer - they first used this also in 1975. I think by '76 they maybe had switched to a 2/2 changer, but Ricky will know more than me on that. But my guess is a very early Pro III, from '75. Can you find the serial number either in the wood body near the endplate under the keyheads, or also stamped into the endplate? That could possibly firm up the date. _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental!

Yes like Douglas said and I go along with that too that it must be 75 as I see wide pedals and double raise/single lower. So really a first year Pro~III. Looks like coil tape switch holes on the side..and those are the original pickups...with three wires: "white" "red" "black"...
The Pro III indeed had metal necks that wrapped around the Changer mount(mounted directly to body)....so the changer is not mounted to a one piece mount around the pickup.
Like Douglas just asked: what is serial number?
what else you wondering??

Rick An Douglas thanks for the info I put the serial number in pictures. She’s not a looker but she’s got a great sound an plays very well. I could do a restoration but I think I’ll just clean it up an enjoy her.

Cool Johnie..yes #6995 was born first month of 1975....wow...that might be one of the first ones built?? Does it JUST SAY "Pro~III" on the front or "The Pro~III Custom"??? oh wait...I do think I've seen some first Pro~III's have round front....this one looks square front...so probably says "The Pro~III Custom" but it would be last wide/waffle pedal one...ha..

Got her cleaned up an started another steel from back neck parts. Zane gave this old bud a thumbs up. She’s ready for another 43 years. One of the best sounding An playing steels I’ve ever played!!!
