Workshop with Debashish Bhattacharya in North Carolina

Post by Mike Babyak »

Hi All,
Just wanted to give a heads up that the great master of Indian slide guitar, Debashish Bhattacharya, will be giving a workshop on Saturday, November 17 in Chapel Hill North Carolina. The workshop is geared toward players of any stringed instrument. There will be a morning and afternoon session. Fee is $60 for a single session, $100 for both.

Debashish will be in Chapel Hill from Nov 16 through the 20th and will also be available for private instruction. On November 18 at 6pm, he will be appearing in concert at the Cary Theater in Cary, NC with his brother Subhasis on tabla and his daughter Anandi on vocal.

Please contact me, Mike Babyak, at triplefret@triplefret.com if you're interested in any of these events. If you aren't familiar with Debashish, here's a clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8WWNKhdy-w

Yeah, they don't get much better, for sure. I actually study with him. He's an excellent teacher and just a super sweet guy. Very funny, and very very patient.

He actually spends a fair bit of time each year in the Santa Rosa area and usually does a workshop or two when he's there. If you follow him on facebook or instagram, he usually announces them.

He also teaches from Kolkata by way of FaceTime. I'm his 6AM lesson (8:30 pm my time)!!

The most avant-garde music on the planet.

I like sitars and have learned to play one.

Such fast fingers has Debashish on his slide.

The family band tones on the NPR clip are awesome.
