i would like to adjust the b pedal on my carter to have a little more slack in the pedal before it actually engages the 3&6 string raise.can someone tell me what and how to adjust this.

Lee--this can end up being not quite as simple as you would like because of Carter's gear-down cross shaft on the 6th string. If it weren't a factor (or if yours was removed or bypassed for some reason) then what I would do is this:

--back off the nylon tuning nuts as much as you want to get the amount of slack you are looking for

--under the front rail of the guitar you will find VERY small allen set screws in the aluminum rail. These are the pedal stop adjustments. To compensate for the nylon tuning nut adjustment you will need to increase the pedal travel by turning the tiny set screw counterclockwise. Although a simple procedure, you may need to go back and forth until you get what you are looking for. Fine-tune at the nylon nut. However, be aware of the gear-down issue on 6. It might make things more complex.

Jon, what is this "gear down" thing you speak of? My Carter has nothing special on the B pedal linkage anywhere.

Interesting. I have encountered others, on the forum, who also didn't have it, although if you didn't know what you were looking for you could be looking right at it---I can't see why anyone would go to the trouble of removing it and I think it is an old feature.

Simply, the B pedal goes to its cross shaft and a bellcrank pulls a pull rod for the 3rd string. Like normal. But another bellcrank on this cross shaft runs to a bellcrank on a whole nuther cross shaft, which then runs a pull rod to the 6th string. This enables you to leverage the standard amount of pedal pull into a much smaller movement, via your choice of bellcrank puller positions on either end, for the very sensitive .020 plain on 6, thus allowing them to pull in sych. It's pretty slick. Take another look and see if you have that extra cross shaft in there.
