Hi all. I picked up my guitar this afternoon. The cardboard packaging around the case was beat up, but the guitar arrived safely and sustained zero damage. The only thing I had to do was tune it. There must have been guardian angels travveling with the package, because directly beside my name and address which was written clearly and legibly on the box, was a little tag put on by some clown at UPS saying "Tracking number missing Deliver to overgoods". Overgoods is a warehouse where UPS send undeliverable packages. The thing that really makes me mad about this is that my name, address and telephone # as well as the shippers name address and telephone # were written right on the box- they were in no way shape or form illegible by any means. You may see the ordeal for yourselves at www.ups.com The tracking # is 46391675315

About the guitar: The first thing that jumped out at me was the sustain. This instrument has greater sustain than any other stringed instrument I have ever heard, bar none. The tone is also incredible. I will be very happy for a long time. I will post pictures when I get new batteries for my camera and figure out how to post them. A word about UPS- be very weary of them. They lied through their teeth every time I called them looking for answers. Every time I called, I got a different story as to what the deal was. They are very difficult to deal with, their tracking system sucks, and I strongly recommend that anyone considering using them to ship a package think twice, 9 times out of 10 it will likely go smoothly, but that 1 time out of 10 you will literally wind up pulling your hair out trying to get things sorted out

Bye for now From Adam

Adam;
Congratulations! You now own one of the finest PSG on the market today! I've owned (3)-Franklins since 1980, (#024, #069 & #192) and every one was better than the last! Paul and the family are the finest of people and are good friends of mine and very accommodating to deal with! Now, “Pick It”!

AB, glad to hear that the Steel arrived..

I guess the one positive thing would be that it was obviously not handled by BRUTS who throw things around and drop thme off trucks...

My guess would be it was shipped thru the Holiday time..which is a nightmare period for all shippers.

Play it in good health..

Congratulations!!! As I mentioned to you I didn't think anyone unless they are a steel player, would steel the guitar. They are really hard to sell. Just ask a dealer!

A B--Congratulations! I had been following this drama since before Christmas, and I am so happy for you. You must be dying to play that thing. UPS is one company I will never use again as a shipper, that's for sure. Can't wait to see the pictures of your new "baby."

Thanks everyone. The s/n is 202. It is a burgundy color. Thanks esp. to John Fabian for the telephone call. I really appreciated it. I picked up the guitar from the UPS Hub at Vancouver International Airport about 2 hours after it cleared customs. To be quite honest, my trust in UPS is extremely low and I didn't want them holding on to it for another minute. I really love the guitar-0 I started of with a Carter a little over 4 years ago and this is my upgrade (not to put down the Carter- they are good guitars and mine got me off to a good start, but nothing beats a completely hand crafted instrument) I haven't asked Paul sr about this, but do any of you know if he machines all of the bellcranks, knee levers, undercarriage parts, etc? He told me that the endplates necks and keyheads are cast by someone else and he finishes themm, but everything else?

Thanks again From Adam

Glad to hear it!!!!

BTW - Just a little known fact: Names and addresses written, no matter how legibly, on the outside of the box are ignored initially by most of the shippers, as boxes are often reused and half the people that reuse them forget to remove the OLD info - just cover up or remove the sticker with tracking number.

They will, in most cases, open a box that's "lost" and look for a (recommended) duplicate of the tracking label or names and addresses. But if it's only on the outside you are in for (as you found out) a long wait, as the "analog" info has to be dealt with by hand, and there are lots of them too deal with. Tracking numbers they can punch in and reprint, package on its way.

So - a couple things I've found out after shipping about a thousand packages:

1. Write the shipper and receiver's name, address and phone numbers and the tracking number on a sheet of paper and put it *inside* the box.

2. Write the same info (except the tracking number) on the outside.

3. Print and apply at least TWO labels with the tracking number on different sides of the box.

Haven't had one lost or delayed yet.

Man, am I glad you got that guitar - it's a beauty!

yes , this is a very good ending and the new Steel must be awesome.

I can't help but wonder if the perhaps the Shipper was not overly worried about this ..concerned ? yes of course.. as it was shipped from the USA thru the Holiday season across the International border and was still received in less than 30 days..

Sure allow for a few days of nonsense..but all in all perhaps UPS did not do so bad with this at the end of the day.

Shipped Dec 12th, received Jan 10th..NO DAMAGE..28 days...

I had a Steel sent to me from Portland Oregon, before the Holiday time and it took every bit of the 10 scheduled days..and that one could not be tracked either ..but it showed up as scheduled.

and as Jim so correctly mentioned above, historically shippers well ignore anything that is NOT there own lable or tracking #..

Can you imagine just for a moment, a lable falls off, they send it to a written address on the box..and it turns out to be an incorrect party ?

My friend at UPS has told me more than a hundred times. UPS packages do not move without the correct UPS lable on them...the lable is there proof of contract and delivery..

I too sent out approx 50 business packages the week of Dec 15th..each one arrived on time..no issues.

Point here, perhaps we are quick to pull the trigger on situations ..many folks jumped in with the worst horror sttories and scenario's that can be imagined.

I see this as an International Shipment that got delayed, and yes, tracking was not available, but it arrived not all that late with NO DAMAGE...

I see this as a scenario where they may have been an address issue thru the Holiday time and they were swamped with boxes that had correct information on them that they could deliver, so this one took a back seat thru the Holiday rush..Maybe some poor soul at UPS sat down with this one after the season rush and put it all together so it could get delivered. Obviously someone got a handle on it...and made it happen..

BY the way, I shipped an International package yesterday from the US Post Office, it stated 7-9 business days..they told me at the counter that was an average..based on history..she said it could be 3 days or 23 days...once it leaves our border all bets are off.that is what they told me..and they are right...

great story, great thread..great ending...

we can all speculate on what happened..no doubt..but we cannot speculate on the final outcome, no damage, international border, 28 days..Buyer happy in the end...

the good news is nobody has to use a shipper they are not happy with...ever..

Tony,
My parents were extremely worried, and they are sleeping a whole lot better now then they were this time last week.

UPS may have done a decent job, considering the holidays, border crossing, etc, but just think how much faster it would have arrived if it hadn't gone to West Columbia, South Carolina first!

Adam,
I'm so happy for You!

Theresa, Hello hope you're well. UPS seems to route all Canadian packages leaving Nashville thru Columbia SC.You have to go south before you can go North.

All my Western freight has to go North several hundred miles before going West.DHL sent an amp I purchased in Nashville to MI before sending it to South Carolina.

It's just something most all freight CO's do.It works out best for them in the long run.I'd break it down. But I can't type. And it would only bore you anyway. Regards Bobby

yes Theresa I am certain they were..no doubt , I didn't mean to imply otherwise..

But I do believe with all of there experienes they may have felt it needed a bit more time past the Holiday seasonal rush...as many have stated here that work with shippers often...

As far as the shipping route, that is very common for many carriers to send items to a centralized locations..and then FROM that centralized point gets sent off to the destination. For us, it seems very odd but to keep track of things ( under normal circumstances) it is really a very efficient way to manage and control the routes.

I believe it was FED EX at one time, may still for all I know..everything went to Memphis ..then assigned out from there..made no sense to me but to Fred Smith I guess it made perfect sense...

great ending for both parties involved..

I shipped a speaker to Ft Worth during the holidays, via Fed Ex ground. It took three extra days because of the holiday season. But, the Fed Ex clerk told me to expect a longer than normal shipping time.

Fed Ex AIR does send everything through Memphis, but not the ground shipments.
