Back, long ago, when there was TNN and a show called American music shop, Jerry Douglas would play a small bodied strat lap steel. It may have even been built by Joe Glaser. I remember it having figured maple.

Does anyone have a pic? I've searched for one, but no luck. Even scoured youtube.

A pic and any history on it would be cool.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, Jerry used to play a Strat-style electric lap steel. He used it on this song. JD comes in at 03:23 ....

No picture, but here is a link to Jerry's long out-of-print album from the MCA Master Series, Changing Channels. The first track is Ankara to Izmir which he later recorded all acoustic on the Skip, Hop & Wobble album.

The Joe Glaser Lap Strat enters at 3:58.

As for Lap King guitars, those have been his go-to when playing electric for going on a decade.

Aside from these Joe Glaser creations, and we had a thread about this awhile back, he has had a couple lap Teles or Strats made for him by the Fender Custom Shop.

This guitar is from the Fender Custom Shop made for Jerry by Fred Stuart.

Quoting from an article in Vintage Guitar from several years back, Jerry used the lap Tele on his 2012 album, Traveler, and he had this to say:

Quote:
On Traveler, Douglas played a similar square-neck Telecaster made by Fred Stuart and ran it through a Marshall stack. “It was like going to the amusement park!” he says.

I've been using Jerry's analogy for years when people ask me what the difference is between playing the dobro vs. lap steel: The dobro is like a handsaw whereas lap steel is more like a chainsaw.
