Well, I was in my shop today and while looking through some of my books and such, I pulled out my copy of Bruce's book. It had been a while since I had read it. I thumbed it open and started reading. Just like the first time that I read it, I couldn't put it down. It doesn't mater where you start,it will catch and keep your attention. I am posting this because it dawned on me that there are probably hundreds of new members and new players that have joined this forum since Bruce's book has first came out. I hope that he still has copies for sale. If you are interested in steel guitar history, you need to read his book, and if you already have read it,you might enjoy reading it again. I did. Dale

You're right. I bought Bruce's book when I ordered my Encore. I've read that book six times so far.
I read Jerry Byrd's book twice.

Highly recommended.

Sure sounds interesting. This other thread has an address where it can be ordered:

https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtop ... ight=bruce

As that thread is over 2-years ago, can anyone confirm if the address is still valid?

I'm sure that address is still valid.

Does anyone know of any other similar book about builders/players?

Everyone knows about the outstanding build quality that Bruce is famous for, but not everyone knows about his outstanding playing. Several years ago I went into the main ballroom at Scotty's ISGC to get get some recording equipment ready before the start of the show. It was early, and no one was in the room, I thought. I started hearing some of the most beautiful steel guitar work I have ever heard, and it was Bruce playing one of the guitars he brought to sell. I had to stop and listen it was so mesmerizing. When I went over to compliment his playing, he humbly said he was just tweeking the guitar. And yes, the book is a great read, no matter how many times you read it.

The CD is just some of the best Steel playing you’ll ever hear. I think as usual, Bruce did the whole thing himself. And I figure the steel parts were probably played on Zumsteel guitars. LOL

Steve, I agree with Danny -- the CD is ALL Bruce. Just GREAT PLAYING all the way. .He's a master on both necks.
His book is his life story building Steel Guitars from day one to retirement. I'm proud to own 2 of his great guitars, just with I could get him to make me another one. P.H.
