Hi from Australia

Post by Barry Hembling »

I've been a forum member for a while now, but have never posted before. I've had my LDG for twenty plus years now and class myself as an intermediate player. I have spent numerous hours surfing through all the old forum posts and wanted to say thanks for all the entertainment and great information I've managed to pick up. I also just wanted to say how much I envy you guys who manage to gig or just jam together regularly. I am (as far as I know) the only PSG player for hundreds of Km and the only live music around here is pub rock, not really my scene anymore as I'm 70 now. I have done a few bandstand jobs as a steel player over the years, mostly as one-off sit in jobs, but they are very few and far between, so I'm restricted to just playing for amusement at home.
Anyway, thanks again for all the info available through the forum, it truly is a mine of information for those of us who are largely cut off from the steel world.

Hi Barry,

What part of South Australia are you from? I'm from Victoria but love visiting SA on a regular basis.

Hi Greg,
I'm at Barmera in the Riverland, just over the S.A. border from Mildura. Love to catch up if you're ever this way.

Cheers from Qld Barry, just in case you don't know - check out brissteelguitar (dot) com to see what's happening here on the east coast.
Maybe you could make a trip sometime to one of our annual steel festivals.
All the best, Allen. :D

G'Day Barry,
I've just returned home from a fortnight in Victor Harbor.
Also 70, and living about 2 hrs east of Mt. Gambier.
I've been battling with "Pedal Steel Guitar addiction" since 1972.
Enjoy!! Look me up sometime.
Cheers, Murray.

Hi Barry, if you are ever driving through to Melbourne give me a call.
I'm in Ballarat & have been fooling around with pedal steel for a good no. of years - maybe one day I'll get it right.

Well, It's nice to know that I'm not alone after all. You're all many miles away, but good to know I'm not the last surviving example of an extinct breed.
David, I might be around Ballarat later this year, if so I'll get in touch.
Many thanks to you all for saying Hi. I've always had to teach myself and have had no lessons or interaction with other players. The interweb is great, but I'm sure I would have done better over the years with a little one on one contact with other players.
Still been fun though, and I'm certainly not finished learning yet !!
Cheers, Baz
