10 String Keyless Lap Steel

Post by Sonny Jenkins »

I hope to have a couple more keyless lap steels available in 2 or 3 weeks,,,after I get the one back that Paul Franklin has been using (I'm sure I'll be keeping it for a while at least!). If anyone is thinking about one, now is the time to discuss color choices, scale length etc.

Lap steels

Post by Joe Rouse »

I will now write what I think of Sonny's lap steels.
I am wanting one of Sonny's new lap steel in the worst way. Sonny and I have been friends for a long time and hope to buy one this year. A purchase of 1 of Sonny's lap steel would be a wise move, and Sonny is one of my dearest friends. Good guy to deal with....jr

Are you talking about taking orders for custom made?
I like to see your keyless design, that’ll make the guitar at least 5” shorter( which is welcome thing for what I’m looking for)

I have zero interest in lap steel, but if I did, I'd get one of Sonny's. They are beautiful.

Oh man!!,,you guys are too kind!!! No, I doubt that I will be making any more,,,especially custom orders,,,with these hands the way they are I just never know how long something will take. I do have a couple of guitars started,,,not sure they will ever be finished,,also have been making some keyless conversions for PSGs. Just finished a keyless head for one of of the leading PSG builders,,,can't wait to see it on one of his guitars!!!

BTW,,,I DO have the little red guitar that Paul used on his non-pedal video, and the George Strait session. I was going to keep it but have decided to sell,,,$750 plus ride. It is signed on the back by Paul and Vince Gill.

I love mine, beautiful maple, stays in tune thru hot and cold (40 degree temperature swings), good clean tone/separation from the Alumitone, can easily carry it around everywhere with headphone amp (Vox Amplug) and play anywhere, just don't forget your 7/64" allen wrench, they're a little hard to find

Also maybe 3" longer than the scale length. I'm waiting for Sonny to make one that's shorter than the scale length, I'm definitely buying that one!

Sonny is definitely good with his hands, even if they are stiff and sore. I have one of his 8 string heads.
