¿How much tuning leeway is there on a keyless tuner once strung?
I´ve never had a chance to see one in action. Sometimes I will tune my 12th string from B to C# for a particular tune...then tune it back at the end of the song. ¿Could I still do that on a keyless?

On GFIs, there's pleeeeeenty of room. I've never done it, but from going by memory of "feel," I'd say you can go to a half note up or down just by half or even quarter turn of the dial.

Jeremy, for folks that are not familiar with the gearless tuning system, your question is a reasonable one.
I once had a Lamar keyless D10. I owned Universals at the same time. I used to tune the C neck on the Lamar down to B to match the fret positions on the U12/14. This would take the big 10th .070 string from C down to B with raises and lowers as much as 1 1/2 tones. No problem whatsoever.
I would say this would not be a problem on either of the keyless tuners I have owned.
One of the other Unis was a Sierra 14. Seemed to be plenty of range for tuning on that one also.

My Excel will do it quite easily. Although if I was gonna do it often enough for it to come up as a question,I'd just put it on a pedal. Most 12 strings already have it.

On my Excel, I raise the tuner fingers to the top of their travel after removing the strings. After pulling a new string as tight as possible by hand, the tuner finger is about half way down when the string is in tune. With the fingers half way down, you have more room to raise or lower than you will probably ever need. (I will NEVER go back to keyed guitars.)

I used to do it the Kline I owned with no problems.

| Your question is a good one. Keep in mind that when you put a low string on you can actually string it too tight with your fingers to begin with. So, you could easily tune a string up a step or more (and then back) but you might not be able to tune a sting down a whole step if you put it on very tight to begin with. |
