Pedal steel to learn on?

I am seeking some expert advice on a good guitar for me to start learning on as a day one beginner.
I been playing 6 string Tele and Strat for quite some time. But, I have always wanted to learn to play pedal steel.
I'm a real newbie.
Thanks so much in advance for all your suggestions.

Hi Steve,
Keep a look out for a Zum Stage One or a Zum Encore and you won't go wrong. Hope this helps

Currently, there are two Derbies, a Fessenden, and a Carter for sale on the Forum... all SD10's.

There is a Fessenden six shooter on Reverb.com for sale. It's a great price for just getting your feet wet. You'll probably want to upgrade to a 10 string once you know what you're doing, but for $500, it's not a bad place to start.

The brand is unimportant. What is important is that the steel has 10 or 12 strings, 3 pedals, and 4 or 5 knee levers.
That will keep you busy for at least 3 or 4 years. Then, once you've got some knowledge and experience, you can get a better steel if you wish.
