Thanks to forum members comments u have convinced me too put price on my for sale post. Thank again Johnie King. Who’s in favor of putting price of your steel guitar, amp, dobro an many other goodies for the public to see on forum I’ve come too the conclusion that if your interested You will Pm me for price or use my email. If not you might be a tire kicker. I have been scolded for asking potential buyer or tire kicker for not publicly putting a set price. Maybe Bob could chime in on the subject. I know when I have Rittenberry Prestige ,Emmons Zum y’all don’t seem to mind sending pm or text.

Not sure I totally understand what you are saying Johnie, but I am surmising you are talking about whether or not to include the price of the price of the steel in your listings in the for sale section.

I don’t think not listing the pirce is going to keep you from getting tire kickers. In fact, I think it is even worse, because you are going to get a lot of pms from people who realize the steel is out of their budget. By including the price, you at least stop people from contacting you that don’t have the budget.

You are also missing out on a major selling technique: the price reduction!

Whether the forum, or some other place, if they don't list a price I will almost always ignore it. My presumption is, if they don't put a price it is because they know they have over-priced it and want to get you hooked before revealing it. Even $10M houses have the price listed on Realtor.com.

As for tire-kickers, seems to me NOT listing a price would encourage that - you then have to answer that question each time a dreamer emails you. JMHO.

Others may think differently, but I see posting prices as just being honest and above board. When a price isn't given, I always get the nagging feeling that the seller may be quoting different prices to different people, or changing prices as different "offers" come in.

Hiding and concealing things just throws up red flags. (Just ask any judge or cop.)

I've been in marketing since 1984, and I could not agree more. Not posting a price is a big no-no that will scare off a majority of prospective buyers.

The best way of avoiding "tire kickers" is to provide an exhaustive description, with clear pictures including every single little tiny blem – that way you answer all their questions in advance and don't have to waste time on the phone unnecessarily.

And in the real world, there is no such thing as a "firm" price, except maybe for stamps at the post office. If you have no wiggle room at all you are probably not really interested in selling. It's called "making a deal" for a reason.

I think a price in the post is the most important thing to include. Frankly, if I find something that interests me, I look for the price in the narrative, before I start reading the listed details.

Your wrong Rick if u want it bad enough you will search heaven an well to see if u can afford it. It’s the bargain. Hunter that want the price posted it’s just that tire kicker mentality

All due respect, Johnie...when you ask who's in favor of putting the price in for sale posts, don't be surprised when you get answers that differ from your own.

This is just my preference but if a price is not listed with an instrument
I will not look at it or read it. If someone is selling an item, tell me what the price is up front.
This may be a carry over for me from retail practices where they elegantly describe an item you really like and don't list a price.
Then you contact them and find out in short order why they didn't list the price.
Note: this is not a criticism of how people post their ads.
Anyone can post their ads any darn way they want to.
It is a description of what goes on in my little head when looking at ads.

On another train of thought.....I really hate it when people describe something
I really want but then do not post pictures of it showing a good visual description.
That makes me go AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

I was a classified advertising manager for a newspaper in Austin TX for 10 years. A well-worn motto in the advertising business is "the more you tell, the more you sell."

I like Herb"s "The more you tell, the more you sell." Copedant, photos, age and price are all important when I am serious about buying a steel. Thanks, SteveT
