Hi Y'all,
I am new here, and new to pedal steel. Been playing lap steel for a long time, and a few months back finally bought an Emmons Student model pedal steel with 3 pedals and 1 knee lever. It sounds great, but I have quickly realized I need more knee levers... So the Emmons is for sale, and I am looking for a new one. I'd like to keep it under 2500 bucks, what are some suggestions you have for me? If I get one with 3 KL will I be content?
Fessy? Mullen? Sierra? Emmons? Williams? Is it the kind of thing where most brands are great if you spend the right amount of cash?
Thanks

3P/5K seems to be the most common, now. But, you can get by very well and last you for a long time with 3P/4K.

For the money you want to spend, I would go with the Mullen Discovery. A pro model at a reasonable price.

Great points from these members!
If you like your current guitar, maybe you could consider having some levers added to it? I just wanted to give you another option to consider, if you weren’t aware of that possibility? Good luck on your pedal steel journey!

If you REALLY like the sound of your GS-10 and want more versatility, truthfully you only have two options:
A. Add three more levers to your GS-10
B. Trade it in for another EMMONS.

Thanks for all the help!
1 Yes I reached out to a couple guys about adding some KL to the GS-10 but they are pricy. I was quoted 200-300 per lever not including labor...So if I put in 3 of them I'm gonna be in pretty deep.
2 While I do love the sound of the Emmons I can't help but feel that a nicer one would feel better, a Lashley LeGrande or something.
3 Those Justice steels look beautiful!
I just keep wondering if there is something that makes some brands worth more than others? Like Ive seen a William's for sale for 3600 and a Carter with the same P and KL set up for 1600... Is it the changer, pickups, hardware? Obviously I know a student model is not at the same level as a pro model, but I just can't figure all this out!
If you all know anyone interested in my Emmons here is the link on reverb:
