Can someone explain what the issues are with the Fender trap p/u (in clear, not-too-techie-English?

All I've got is that it's something to do with a paper bobbin?

Thanks!

The original bobbins warp and will contact the strings.
There are numerous "fixes" out there, but the only real solution is to have the pickup rewound on a new bobbin.
Several rewind services use modern materials which do not warp.

I had one of mine re-wound by Sentel pickups a couple years ago... No longer have the guitar, gave it away.

I think I heard somewhere the bobbins were made of wax covered paper? A diagram of what it looks inside would be quite helpful!

Anyone out there rewound or fixed one of these?

Check with Jerry Sentell:

I have never used his rewind services, but in my opinion the 58mm P-90 lap steel pickups he builds are superior to the Gibson originals.
