For the last month, whenever I use my Goodrich 120 volume pedal, I’m getting a scratching/scraping sound from the amp. I remember a number of posts a while back indicating that this is a common problem, with a relatively easy process for cleaning the pots. But not sure what a “pot†is. Or what to use to correct the problem. Can anyone help me? I’m a real beginner, so some explicit suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

It sounds like you have a scratchy "pot". The pot is the actual volume control...or potentiometer. Sometimes you can squeeze a little life out of it by spraying DeOxit into the body of the pot, but ultimately a replacement pot is the solution. Greg Cutshaw has a web showing the replacement process: http://www.gregcutshaw.com/Goodrich%20120%20Pot/Goodrich%20120%20Pot.html

Also, check that all of your cables are fully pushed in and that you haven't reversed the in and out on your pedal. |

Also... make sure it's not the amp! Try your pedal with a different amp.
A leaky cap on the input of an amp can cause the scratchy sound on the vol pedal. _________________ "To live outside the law you must be honest." (Bob Dylan) |

Daniel, I do suspect it is the volume pedal pot.
If you are handy electronically and have a soldering iron, you should be able to change it yourself.
or
If you want to ship me the pedal, I will install a new Goodrich Volume Pot for you.
Either way, let me know as I am your Goodrich dealer on the East Coast.

I changed out 2 pots on my Vol pedals within the last 12 months. They are both scratchy now. I’m wondering who makes the best pots out there? _________________ Zum,Mullen,Sterio Steel,Little Walter, Fox Vintage,Beard,Fender Lap |

Important point, as DC from leaky, or not properly discharged, caps in direct connection to the potentiometer is the most common cause for scratchy pots. Once the damage is done and burn-marks (literally) have developed on the pot-track, pot-replacement is the only solution. But, if the cap causing the problem is still in place, the new pot won't last long no matter how good it is. |

The new Goodrich pot is by far the best pot available today.
One year unconditional warranty.
After about 3 years i have only had one customer complaint and i resolved that immediately. _________________ AUTHORIZED PEAVEY, George L's, Goodrich dealer. I have 2 steels and several amps.
