Great set by First Aid Kit on the Bonnaroo XBox feed Sunday. (They actually played on Saturday) Fantastic pedal steel by Melvin Duffy who actually could be heard up front in the mix and was featured often on camera. Haven't found any of it online yet, but if it shows up it's well worth the listen. _________________ 74 Sho-Bud ProII

I was wondering who their steel player was! I was front row for their set at Sasquatch at the Gorge in Washington a couple weeks ago. Even though there were two beautiful Swedish girls up front singing (and exuding cool confidence) I couldn't keep my eyes off the steel player. Their new record is great and has steel all over it. It was produced by Mike Mogis who plays steel (and other things) with Conor Oberst/Bright Eyes. _________________ "Steel a little and they throw you in jail, Steel a lot and they make you King." |

He's also on a record by the Robbie McIntosh Band called "Emotional Bends". _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

I just gave Melvin a ride to our local Push Pull specialist Lynn Staffords house, where he dropped off a JCH D10 and picked up a re-furbished Push Pull.
His Emmons came out great! He is a very good player.
I am going to see First Aid Kit tonight |

Probably my favorite band/duo. Saw them at Austin City Limits fest in 2012 and was immediately a fan. The arrangement of “Emmylou” for their Spotify Sessions performance gives me chills! |

A big thank you goes out to my friend, Pete for transporting Melvin to my place and back last Friday. It was a very pleasurable experience meeting Melvin in person. Melvin is a true gentleman and terrific player! To see him overjoyed with being reunited with his beloved '74 Emmons PP was so rewarding for me... hard to put into words.
I completely rebuilt the guitar (but left the original finish and patina intact, per Melvin's desires).
I would have loved to have seen his show with First Aid Kit that evening but I had a gig scheduled. _________________ Best regards,

The First Aid Kit show gig was great.
Melvin was sooooo happy to get his Emmons back, and working perfectly!
Nice job, Lynn! |
