Stringmaster 8 string pick-up re-wireing
Howdy there, Happy New Year to all my steel guitar buddies. Looking for someone in the Los Angeles area to re-wind my 1954 Fender string master D8 guitar pick-ups (4) and re-wire and replace if needed the tone and volume pots. They are becoming dodgie on stage and I think something is wrong. Looking for an expert on this kind of guitar. I do not want to replace them just bring them back to their vintage glory. Thanks.

I do pickup rewinding and all kinds of electronic repair. I would recommend a full evaluation of the guitar before you just do a blanket rewind of all 4 pickups. I can handle all the needs for your guitar. I am in Porter Ranch, right off the 118 freeway.

I second the full evaluation... these pickups just don't need rewinding often. Does your guitar have the pushbutton switches? Those are known to have problems... let a pro look at it.

Thanks for your reply
The guitar has switches two of them they work alright... what is happening is the first neck is treble heavy even when adjusting the tone knob the front pick up does not seem to work,no sound when I tap on it. could be the wiring I think I will have the old girl checked out thanks, how do I get a hold of you in Porter Ranch ?

Is yours the one with two switches and a volume and tone pot, or the later one with one switch, a volume and tone pot, and blend pots for each neck? Just from what has been said in your earlier posts it looks like yours uses the earlier wiring with no blend pots.

Hank brought it over this afternoon. Bass pickup on Neck 2 showed an open. Luckily, resoldering the wires at the eyelets on the pickup with new solder fixed the open. It was just a bad solder joint. Measured the tone capacitor, which was supposed to be a 0.05uF, and it measured 0.08uF. Replaced it with a Sprague orange drop that was small enough to fit in the space. That helped the boo-wah effect to work better thru the transitions. Guitar is done. Hank has been notified so he can pick it up on his way home.
