I own one Sierra U12, but as soon as the funds are in place, I intend to purchase a second one. Incidentally, Tom Baker has been great about supplying me with any replacement parts I've needed. Just email him through the Sierra website.

I own two. The first is an S-10 3+4 E9 with the 3-raise/2-lower changer in rosewood mica, made in roughly '86. The second is an S-14 universal E9/B6 with change lock, with a blue front, probably made about the same time. They're both keyed with 24" scale, and I have to confess I've been wanting to try a keyless 25" scale S-12U.

To me, these are good-sounding and smooth-playing steels. Probably not for the faint of back, but then again, many others are not exactly light.

I play a Crown gearless s-10 and couldn't be happier. I've played a couple of others in the last years, but no one came close to it. Except for a LDG, but that's a differrent story... I wish they would do finishes like Williams, through.

I own a black 2000 Sierra 12 string extended C6th tuning with 8&5 and absolutely love it. Working hard to make it the only guitar that I play. With a Steel King amp, the tone is awesome.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Joe Fortune on 22 July 2005 at 07:40 AM.]</p></FONT><font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Joe Fortune on 23 July 2005 at 09:55 AM.]</p></FONT>

I have 3 Sierra guitars and they are all 12 string keyless. I have a white, a purple and a black. The black one soulds the best as we all know black guitars sound better.... Image

I've had 3 Sierra's, an S14U, and S12U, and an S8U. I still have and play the S8U and the S12U. I sold the S14U to a local Dobro player who "just had to have it".

Universal 12 keyless, about 3 years old. The wheelie case is surely a bonus. Len, why 3 identical guitars? just curious.

I am a 14 string nut. Have a bunch of 14's made with Session series keyless hardware, plus one with swing away legs set up by and for Bill Stafford.

The BEAST was made with Session series hardware.

I have a white Session U12 and a Lap8 (in cherry). Every now and then I am tempted (when I get that GAS attack) to search for a Sierra Lap8 in black. Wish Sierra a stronger advertising program, so more players could experience what we already know.

I've played a U12 since 1987 without any problems, cabinet drop or broken strings. It will probably outlive me (77). Great instrument.

I have owned 8 Sierras and currently have a U12 Session. Although there are a lot of wonderful guitars out there, I really like the Sierra's dependability.

I recently purchased what is believed to be a mid 1980's Sierra Gearless U12 with 8+5. It's my first experience with a U12, and with a "modern" steel as well. I'm having a lot of fun with it for the most part, but confused as heck other times. It sure is a solid guitar, and smooth playing too.

I picked up a 3x4 Artist earlier this year from another forumite. Great guitar! Aside from both guitars being listed in AMS / Musician's Friend a few years back, I fail to see why steelers like to group the Artist w/ the Carter Starter.... IMHO there's no comparison! Its obvious that Tom passed down a lot of his over-engineering genius to this "entry level" model.

I also have a Sierra Artist 3x2 which I love. I would consider it a entry to intermediate level steel. I have been learning for 2 years off and on and am fixing to sell the Sierra and buy a Rains.
