A friend of mine just gotten his hands on a SHO-BUD single neck steel guitar, not a maverick, but a 10 string 1 knee lever and 3 floor pedals. Model is G 152 and the serial number is 11441, it's in great shape. Can anyone can tell me the year of the guitar and what the worth of it is? I might like it just for the history of SHO-BUD. Thanks Jack

Jack,
If you look closer you will see the Model# is 6152, which is a Maverick.

There were at least three Maverick models. The earliest ones had no nut rollers, nice maple bodies and necks, and really cheap mechanics. The middle period ones were best. They had nut rollers, curly maple lacquer bodies and necks, and decent mechanics. The final model was covered in fake wood plastic, had no neck, and had an old Fender style ashtray key head. I don't know how the final ones played or sounded, but they looked butt-ugly.

Thanks Dave, it could be the middle one, it's curly maple lacquer body. It looks really nice and the mechanics looks pretty good. Thanks for the information. Jack

Curly maple natural lacquer body and neck, nut rollers with Gumby keyhead, krinkle-black endplates - that would put it around 1975. Those were the best Mavericks made. It could probably benefit from a new pickup. They sold for about $500 new, and that's about what they sell for among knowledgeable buyers these days. It might sell for more on EBay, where most Sho-Buds seem to go for more than they are worth.
[This message was edited by David Doggett on 03 August 2005 at 02:51 PM.]
