What would a B/W 1203-4 speaker be good for?

Depends which era I think Keith. The early ones with non-kevlar paper cones were designed for musical instrument use and it was the seaker installed in the 112E cabinets that Jeff Newman and many others used in their stereo steel rigs of the early, mid nineties and later.

I still use one in my own rig. Those are great for steel guitar. Here's a clip from the support page at Peavey's Tech Notes info:
1203-4 and 8 Black Widows
The 1203 is the 12" Black Widow/Super Structure designed for musical instrument applications. Able to handle high power yet maintain a bright crisp high-end with maximum output, the 1203 is the choice of many demanding musicians. For that high-end "edge," the 1203 utilizes a special paper cone for those distinctive guitar and keyboard sounds. Available in 8 ohm and 4 ohm versions.
Later, they were kevlar impregnated and used a lot in sound reinforcement and still recommended by some for musical instruments.

Thanks Jerry I was sold one for steel but it is the newer one with the neo magnet and is no good at all for steel unless you maybe want to break glass or something. Thanks for understanding as well.

i have a fender twin which uses two 8 ohm speakers or you can take theme out and use one 4ohm speaker thats what i did i thank the steel guitar sounds better though the bw 4ohm speaker than lead guitar lead sounds alright but to me pedal steel the best through it.
