I have this in my Clinesmith, including the Schoonover modular spider. I have read about a number of alternatives here on the forum, and have heard a few in person - but I don't believe anything out there is in the same league as this system.
Though unlike Mike and some other players I know, I like to blend in a little of the piezo, I don't go 100% Aura. _________________ Mark

I'm an Aura right dial at 3 o'clock kinda guy...
Mike's guitar sounds not only rich but very clean. Not a bit of any string "weirdness" on the guitar itself.
Now we can refer anyone trying to decide on a pickup system to this video. Far and away the best and the only system to use to amplify a dobro in a live setting when a mic won't work due to feedback. IMO and in actual fact. |

In the dobro world: I haven't found a lot of 'absolutes' in terms of dobro amps, mics, cones, tonewoods, capos, baffles, etc.
But the JD Aura Nashville set-up, in my opinion, is the one 'absolute'. If you're plugging a cord into your dobro, it is the absolute closest to the mic'd sound. You're right Brian, the link to this vid should be the standard reply to the plethora of inquiries about plugging in. _________________ A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first. |

Mike's video does a superb job of explaining the system.
To go along with that one, and I believe the video linked below has been shared on the Forum in the past - Rob Anderlik a few years ago put some serious work into demonstrating the Fishman Nashville pickup/JD Aura pedal combo and runs through the different settings.

I have this exact setup except I bought the Boss Singer live amp instead of the Loudbox mini. Sounds amazing |
