Yes here is how Jim is playing that Lead.
He hits his strings in a perfect timing in and around the beat. When he plays more than one string; in a group of two or three strings; they all ring out perfectly evenly. Going to the 2 chord of the song; he starts droning a open string along with bar sliding strings....that nobody on this earth can duplicate the movement he does and selection of pedaled strings with movement of bar and chord structure; cannot be duplicated by any normal steel guitar player(actually Dicky Overbey was only other master of this like Jim; I've heard; RIP Dicky).
There; I hope that helps explain how Jim Loessberg played that and the million other things he can play that makes us scratch our heads.

And the almost ever present allen wrench in his mouth ensures he does ot need to take iron supplements.

Jim is truly one of the masters of both necks. He must be one of the most serious and exact students of the classic masters' solos. And a super nice guy to boot!

As I recall the hall was very cold that night and Jody is kind enough to let me wear my jacket on those occasions.

I'd be happy to explain the solo to anyone interested. It's actually quite easy. When I was with Ray he had lowered the key of "A Way To Survive" to A and I tried to come up with something to play in that key. The open string thing in the 2 chord worked really well and I just adapted it to "Old Faithful". The open string part in the 5 chord was stolen straight from Dicky.

It's probably time for a new Allen wrench. That one has lost most of its flavor.
