It also helps to understand your intended objectives...what style do you most want to learn? Country, Hawaiian, blues, etc.?

I have a lot of experience with distance learning (Skype, and more often, Google Video Chat/Hangouts) and so I have few reservations recommending that. Took five years of Indian classical lessons that way, and now hoping to start learning Hawaiian steel next year. Technology is pretty cool in what it allows these days!

Orville Johnson teaches on Tuesdays at Dusty Strings in Seattle. Don't know if he does skype but he's good on all the lap steels acoustical and electric as well as Spanish guitars. Contact him thru his website, Dusty Strings or thru the forum. Good man.

Also, I have taken lessons at artistworks.com with Andy Hall. He has a whole series of videos on lap steel playing, and his responses to your own videos (which you send to him for feedback) are excellent. I'd highly recommend looking into that.
