My profex II no longer working & there's an SPX90 at a local store for $200...just wondering if anyone is using one of these? _________________ Franklin #130, Melobar Skreemer, Wechter Scheerhorn Resonator, Nashville 112, Boss DD 3 |

Used one briefly years ago..... Yamaha makes pretty nice reverb units and even bought their REV500. Price sounds a little high, but then I see you are in Canada so it may be about right.
I still have the REV500 sitting here that I would make you a good deal on, but not likely it would make much sense to ship out of country.

I like the SPX90 very much. I dont think you can get a better reverb.

JayDee Maness played through those for years, including his Desert Rose stint. There's your recommendation. _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION

Do these units feature a pre-amp as well or used strictly for effects? Reason for asking; There is an 'SPX 990' listed on the local Craigslist at a fairly reasonable price..Thanks. |

You should be able to pick that up for half that. Lexicon is, in my opinion, far superior, that opinion comes from working in the studio with vocals with both brands, but of course it is just an opinion. |

The SPX90 was considered the bees knees when it came out over 30 years ago.
The operative phrase in that last sentence is "..... over 30 years ago."
It probably still sounds good, or good enough, but you'll need to try it out.
Keep in mind that it only does one effect at a time.
Just my gut feel based upon not much, but $200 USD seems kind of high. A quick search of CL LA turned up only a couple, and they seem like they could be had for much cheaper.
I believe that the SPX990 as well as the SPX900 were the next evolution of the SPX90. An internet search turns up a lot on both of them. |

Yamahas rev5 unit was the best I have used of theirs. I had two at one time but have sold them recently. The were from the mid eighties.
Eventide and Strymon make some nice units but they are a bit expensive but not as expensive as lexicons higher end units. I have seen quite a few SPx90's go for under a hundred dollars. |

The 90 is a great rack effect.
It has it's own distinct sound.
It should be considered that older 'digital' electronics had a tendency to be more analog simply from the fact that digital was new, analog was still king and the transition from analog to digital left more of an analog sound.
Not everything new fangled is better. _________________ ShoBud The Pro 1
