Of course, when I say 'Honky Tonk', I'm referring to the great Bill Doggett's hits Honky Tonk, Pts. 1&2. Though my arrangement and performance is clearly more Texas-sounding than Philadelphia, Billy Butler and Mr. Doggett were on my mind.
This demo is far from a finished arrangement, but I think the world is ready for another Steel Guitar Rag, don't you?

Thanks, Mike! I can't speak for the world, but I'm definitely ready for another Steel Guitar Rag. It's a tune we play often and I'm in a bit of a rut with it. You've provided a lot of ideas to freshen it up! |

Thanks everyone!
My arrangement has many little parts that I couldn’t make happen in the demo, but I look forward to playing this with my band. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

The world is always ready for another Steel Guitar Rag.
This one has the proper amount of swing. The rhythm track is very authentic. |

That was beyond awesome. I don't venture into this section much, but that's going to change. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I really got a kick out of this. I've already added your flavor of "Blue Monk" to my set list. "Honky Tonk SGR" may be next. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I appreciate all the kind comments from everyone, thank you!
I’ve made the track private now because I have plans for it. I’ve spent the last two days writing an ending for the tune that I have to admit is pretty cool, so I have definitely invested some energy into it. I don’t want a casual demo to be the thing that lingers in people’s minds.
Thanks again. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

I'm glad you posted the cut before you withdrew it; the raw demo gives clues about how the idea starts, like the rhythm track. |

The idea starts in my mental jukebox. In my mind, all music melts together. Music without borders. I have also been very inspired by people like Ry Cooder, Van Dyke Parks, Randy Newman, Miles Davis/Gil Evans, Clare Fischer, etc., who are geniuses at arranging. The arranging and presentation is the most important thing to me.
So, it starts from the bottom up. If I can find or create a drum loop that gets close to the feel I'm looking for, then I create a bass line. On top of that, maybe a rhythm guitar.
Most of the bass lines on Steelonious were written by me, and my bassist was very thankful that I saved him the difficult work of creating bass parts, especially when he is a busy cat.
But I also have alternate arrangements for tunes, and use these to suit personnel changes on the bandstand or my mood. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

What I mean. But I can see why you don't want listeners to get the demo fixed in mind.
I saw Clare Fischer, directing the One O'Clock lab band at North Texas (with Lyle Mays) doing one of his tunes and some others.
Arrangers are god. You can do a lot with a demo that has the key parts sketched in. Like I'm tellin' you. |
