I found the collusion! This Russian band takes "cover band" to the 11th degree as they cover Chicago's 70s greatest hits note-for-note, lick-for-lick. On the one hand, they sound terrific, on the other hand, Chicago already did this 40 years ago. You have to give 'em props, they sound better than Chicago did in its heyday. Interesting that licks that were improvised become set in amber forever but hey - I guess that's exactly what Mozart and Bach did. Don't think I've heard a cover band more faithful to its source than these guys.

I think you have hit on why it is being called “Classic Rock”. I suspect this note for note treatment will become the rule eventually. The rise of tribute bands is kinda paving the way. |

I would like to hear a Moby Grape cover band or a Fifth Avenue cover band, but no one knows them. The latter had some incredible vocal arrangements. "Faithful Be Fair":

Thanks for posting this, Andy. It brings back good memories.
Chicago was my favorite band back in the day.
I remember driving to Kingsville, Texas to see them, in the early 70s, while in college. It was a school night. Got back home just in time to shower and make an 8:00am accounting class. |

In early high school, I first learned how to play single note guitar by recording the A, G, F, vamp from Chicago's song Beginings and playing lead over that for hours. The band above covers that song and 25 or 6 to 4 fairly amazingly too with the guitarist exactly nailing Terry Kath's tone and (originally) improvised solo.
