Folks,

I'm having a problem with my MSA Classic & I was hoping someone could clue me in on the obvious solution.
It has to do with a knee lever. After I've tuned a string to pitch, I engage the lever & attempt to tune the raise. I can adjust the nut so that the raised string is in tune, but after letting go of the knee lever, the open string is now sharp. After lowering to pitch at the peghead, I'm back to square one except that the nylon nut is now screwed in a couple of turns...
This is the first time this has happened to me & it seems like it should be real easy to fix.
Is it possible something is loose in the undercarriage..? I spent some time tightening things up last night, but no luck...
What am I not seeing..?

Hey RICH, sounds to me you need slack in the linkage.got to have some room for play.
Back off and reset the open,first then work from there. good luck man farris

I believe you've got it Farris. Any adjusting nuts associated with that string need to be loosened before it is tuned open. Then you can tune the pedals and levers associated with that string.

Yes but if you don't have enough distance for that particular pull; than that's how it happened in the first place; as you were trying to tune a pedaled note further than the amount of distance you have for that travel. The fellas are right that your probably into the finger with the nylon tuner; on the open note. So back off the nylon tuner; so that the finger is not effected by the pull rod. Then re-tune the open note; and push the pedal and see if it raises to the desired pitch>and if it does not; than you will need more distance to the stop underneath; for that pedal. Also make sure the lowering of that finger is not effecting the open note.

Absolutely right... I backed the nylon nut out, retuned the open string & then slowly brought up the tuning on the raise. I checked the open tuning frequently to see if it was affected, but it worked.

I was pulling the 1st string up a step using RKR & I think it hit it's limit, since it's a relatively short throw.
