I'm guessing it was Ron Dann. Randy Bachmann also played a little steel, but not as perfect as the player here. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

More likely Ron Halldorson. He lived in the Winnipeg area I believe, as did the Guess Who. _________________ I don't know much but what I know I know very well.

Wow! I'm surprised I missed all the pedal steel on these earlier records. That was about the time I got really interested in the instrument.
I don't recall ever hearing that tune. I listened to some of the others from the sidebar on YT and heard more pedal steel there from the #10 album and some on Rockin' too.
Didn't find any steel credits anywhere though. I thought Halldorson played bass, but he was probably a multi-instrumentalist.
Anyhow, thanks for posting this link Reggie.
Always a big fan of the Guess Who. Our little jam group does some of their later stuff. |

That's better "country" than is being put out today! Isn't it odd that all those old rock bands play better country than the guys today? Maybe today's country is just bad rock n' roll? _________________ Just north of the Weird place, south of Georgetown |

According to Discogs Ron Halldorson is playing steel on tracks 1 & 6 on that album. _________________ I don't know much but what I know I know very well.

Ron Dann was a great player as well. I did a recording with him away back in about '77. He was a great guy. _________________ I don't know much but what I know I know very well.

Ron Halldorson's first instrument was steel guitar and yes, for many years, he was Lennie Breau's bassist. Ronnie is also a phenomenal guitarist. The Guess Who have used a few local musicians on the odd album and he was probably first call for steel. There was a story and I don't know how true it is, that Paul Franklin looked up Ron when he came through Winnipeg with Dire Straits. I 'll have to ask him one day. He told me that he's put away the steel and plays guitar exclusively these days. That's a shame. Was that Ron on this cut...yeah, no doubt. |
