As far as I know, Stan is still alive at about 88 in Memphis. He played both steel and bass, but I think of him mostly as a songwriter--he wrote 3 of my favorite Elvis songs. Pre-Charlie Feathers, he spent time in Texas with the Al Rogers band--around San Antonio I think.
As for Feathers, go to Youtube and run down "Tongue-Tied Jill" or "Bottle To The Baby" to hear what he is better known for--rather than that weepy and whiny country stuff. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Kesler is at the top in this pic from 1953.

I have heard that one before, but somehow it sounds more like an early pedal steel to me, those bends would at least be difficult to achieve on a non-pedal. It would really be interesting to know what tuning/setup he used. |

Great steel player session player at Sun studios in the 1950's . Played some console steel but mainly early pedal steel probably 8 string ( I'd love to know more about his instrument ) Prolific on country sessions around 54,55,56 for Carl Perkins , Miller Sisters, Charlie Feathers and many others at Sun. Love his playing great feel and tone and no flash 😊 As the 1950's progressed and Sun moved to record more rockabilly/rock n roll his steel playing days were over he quickly got to grips with the electric bass and became Sun's bass player . Very underated in my opinion |
