Jerry Wallace or other manufacturers of pu's

This is a question for Jerry Wallace or any other pickup maker/winders or forum members. Are there any "noiseless" single pickups on the market for steel patterned after guitar pickups such as Fender lace sensors or Kinman (www.kinman.com)?

I have Bill Lawrence 710s on my emmons p/p and BL xr-16s on my Carter. Both are totally noiseless.

The closest I've actually tried was a Bill Lawrence 912 that I tried on my metal neck Excel 12 string(the 10 string version is the 910). It has a single row of magnets with two coils of wire on each side like a regular humbucker except that the coils are lying on their sides instead of vertical.It comes close to a "noiseless single coil" but a real single coil like Jerry's pickup is still far superior in respect to the attributes we all love in that style pickup. Jason Lollar has made some pickups he calls "in-line humbuckers" where the first half or treble side of a single coil pickup is wound w/wire and then the other half of the pickup is wound seperately.The effect is then like two 5 or 6 string pickups aligned end-to-end and wound so they cancel each others hum. That sounds like maybe the ultimate solution but I've never heard one. In my world for now,Jerry's pickup is still the king - hum and all. -MJ-

Buddy, there are several "humbuckers" made by BL and GL that are excellent quite/noiseless pickups.

However, in my opinion all current attemps at making the humbuckers sound like a single coil leave something to be desired..

The process of cancelling noise with a humbucking pickup unfortunately also changes the frequency response of a pickup..
{cancels out some of the good with the bad}.

While many of the humbuckers have a good sound/tone the traditional single coils are better in my opinion.

This is why I only build single coil pickups..I recommend for myself or anyone a BL or GL if your need is zero noise..

If you do some checking you will find that MANY "pro" players have went back to using single coils in the past few years..Most "pro" players agree a single coil gives the the best sound/tone..The negative feature being they are more prone to noise..But in most cases its not enough to notice when playing as the signal to noise ratio makes it not a problem.

I'll put up with a little bit of noise to still have that great single coil sound! Jerry rewound both my PU's on my SuperPro and they're fantastic!
