Robert, Call Dwight Lewis Lumber Co. in Picture Rocks, PA. Mel and Mark are about as reasonable as anyone I've ever delt with. You can probably get what you're looking for for under 50 bucks delivered.

It's all good Northern Tier Maple too. That's about as good as it gets.

The 12 inch width you mention you mention may be the culprit. Around here, curly maple is about $6 a board foot, but I don't see much that's 12 inches wide with good figure. Good luck!

Have you checked any hardwood lumber mills in your area? I buy this sort of thing locally. It still ain't cheap, but if you can see what you are buying and you can cut out the shipping cost, you'll be way ahead.

Robert,

Curly Maple is not that "rare" and should be available at ANY local lumber mill or hard wood dealer in Ohio. However, you will be HARD pressed to find a piece of Curly Maple with high figure that is 12" wide. You will be looking at a "glue up" for this width. Find yourself a hard wood dealer in the Yellow Pages and that should do it. If you don't have the proper tools to make the glue-up, most lumber mills or dealers will do it for you at an additional fee...just a few bucks.

Cheers!

I recently bought some birdseye here in the Netherlands.Over here birdseye is twice as much as in America. The 4 pieces I bought are just enough to build me a Double body cabinet.Price.....€342euro.
It's just that this will be my personal steel and there for I am using massive Birdseye.Normally I use birdseye finish.Don't cost that much.

ROBERT, I HAD THE SSAME PROBLEM AS YOU..TO MANNY DOLLARS AND NOT ENOUGH WOOD. I WANTED TO BUILD FIDDLES AND MANDOLINS ECT: WELL AFTER RUNNING UP BLIND ALLEYS FOR TOO LONG, I WENT TO,,,,,,,,,GEORGIA PACIFIC...... IN BLUEFIELD W.VA. THEY BUY UP ALL THE TIMBER ARROUND THERE......THEY SOLD ME A CURLY MAPLE TREE, CUT IT IN LENGTHS THAT I COULD HANDLE, 36 INCHES AND I BRAUGHT THE WHOLE TREE HOME.... THIS WAS ABOUT 5 YRS AGO AND IT COST ME $ 70.00 FOR A WHOLE TREE, {LOG } WITH ABOUT 100 BOARD FEET OF LUMBER..... BLUEFIELD IS NOT TOO FAR FROM YOU, IF YOU ARE IN A HYRRY.....12 " CURLY MAPLE 6 QUARTER,, FORGET IT..... ANY AND ALL CURLEY MAPLE THEY GET IS MADE INTO VINEER....THAT IS THE REASON THAT THE PRICE IS SO HIGH, OR ONE OF THEM.....GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST FOR C.M. JENNINGS
