So I'm working up JMM's song "Be My Baby Tonight" on steel right now (for a cover band I'm in), and there's a lick Paul Franklin starts out the steel solo with that is pretty intense/cool. A series of 16th note runs. Jeff Rady tabbed out an interpretation here:

I've seen/heard Paul play these kinds of licks in other songs too.

My question to y'all: how to you approach your right hand picking on this?

I've been using my 2nd finger to hit the 4th string, 1st to hit the 5th string, and thumb for the 6th string, pick blocking all of it. I can get it fairly quick and clean, but it's gonna take some regular practice over a longer time period to really get it up to 140-160bpm (which I believe is where the song is at).

Anyone play these kinds of licks using different right-hand fingerings? Love to hear what you think and how you approach this kind of passage.

That's how I'd pick it.

In measure 2, it helps to engage the A pedal on beat before where it's picked. That makes a steady rhythm with your foot that will go to "muscle memory".
