Is there a intro to pedal steel? A book that tells of the different styles, and makes. Something that explains the parts, terms, and definitions? Something that may even go into a little theory?

I saw a book on eBay called "Anthology of the Pedal Steel" that Scotty wrote. Does anyone have this book? Is it the type I am looking for? Does anyone have any other titles I should check out?

The Winnie Winston book is good too, although it's a little outdated, but still very good.

I don't have the Scotty book you mentioned.

There are other resources, but try these and see if they help. If you need more, give us another post.

Jeff Newman used to have a video called "Pedal Steel Guitar Illustrated" that you could rent or buy. Call Fran at 1 800 373 3418
It explains all the parts, how to tune and maintain your guitar, and also some stuff about amps, effects, etc.

Jason, I can recommend Dewitt Scotts Deluxe Pedal Steel Guitar Book, which is a different one than the anthology. Though it may not cover "all styles", I have not run across any other materials that were so easy to get in to. You can get a CD with it too, but there are so many easy things to learn on, that you can get by with out it, Jim

Jason, I have the book Anthology of PSG. It doesn't have as much detail that it sounds like you are looking for. However it does have some great execises as well steel players doing there own songs.

I was at the CVS pharmacy, recently, and they had a Menopause for Dummies book. I decided that bringing it home wouldn't be a very good idea.

Both books mentioned by Scotty are excellnt, and Winnies book also, I had all three, but I have allready given them away, so I'm not much help, I'm sure they are still available tho.

I've got Jeff's C6th workshop, and vidio layin around if ya get interesred!!!

There may be no PSG for dummies but there is always a PSG salesman for DUMMIES!! Good luck combing thru the endless 'learn hows' but just about anyone can give you a good start.

I highly recommend Jeff Newman's "Up From The Top" series of instructional material. It covers the A & B Pedal, the D-Lever and the F-Lever. Take your time with this material and absorb it. It is your key to the basics.
