Bob, if you do a search on the forum here on Wilcox pedal steel in the Pedal Steel category, you'll find what's been said, and it's been a bit of a controversial topic.

BTW, leave "steel" singular, as above; more comes up than if you search on Wilcox pedal steels.

Chet Wilcox is the builder, he says he builds his steels to be an affordable pedal steel for people who can't afford the big bucks for the big name brands. He says they are not comparable to the big name steels but that they play good and sound good for a good price.

Dustin Rigsby is a forumite who plays one and seems to like it, search on his name and you'll find his email address and you can ask him yourself, in addition to what you'll find in the archives.

Bob,
Yes, I play a Wilcox guitar. Yes, it is good guitar. Is it a Sho-Bud ? No. There is only one Sho-Bud. Chet Wilcox is a super nice guy. For a thousand bucks, you certainly can't go wrong with this guitar. It will carry you up to the intermediate level of play, and maybe further. It really depends on you. Hope this helps.

Edited to add : The Wilcox guitar kind of gets a bad rap on the forum...it is not a bad guitar though.

Thanks, everyone ... I'm new to the forum, so the 'search' suggestion really helped. Chet Wilcox emailed me with complete info on the guitar. Nice guy ... Let's close it out ...
