Jerry Fessenden built me a really pretty guitar with a cherry mica front and back apron with birdseye mica on top.
Pictures are on my website.

Steve, you have a couple of options by checking out some web sites that post laminate samples or visiting your local hardware store. You may even have a kitchen designed business by you whom might have samples for your viewing pleasure, or they can lead you in the right direction for hands on shopping. If you see something pleasing to your eye, whether you found it on the net or at one of your local store entities, ask for a sample. Most laminate folks are accommodating.
Here's a start http://www.armstrong.com/reslaminatena/article16053.asp
see sample button then go to the link below http://www.armstrong.com/reslaminatena/lam_browse_by_wood.jsp |

That cherry and birdseye really work well together for the Fessy. Great effect! I think the birdseye reflection off the polished neck sides adds to the laquered Nashville illusion. Nice. [This message was edited by Steven Welborn on 17 April 2005 at 08:42 PM.] |

I never thought of Cherry or Mahogany as highly figured woods. I don't think I have ever seen "figured" Cherry or Mahogany. Especially Mahogany, since it is known for (and generally used for) it's close, uniform grain structure; which, I believe, enhances it's stability. (That's why you see it used in so many guitar necks.)

I know what you mean Mark, but "figured mahogany" is one of the mica options Bruce is currently offering for the Zums. I shure it wouldnt be "highly" figured though. |

Well, Bruce is only doin mica these days. No laquer. That might be a good thing to in one respect, cuz it would likely double the wait period for a new order at this point.
Thanks for the nice sources though. I'll book mark em for another project down the road.[This message was edited by Steven Welborn on 19 April 2005 at 10:07 AM.] |

Bobbe, I'd really like to use that line as a quote if and when I release a CD...
