Are they really good?

Hello all
On my recent visit to Dallas for the Jamboree I noted that the players on the main stage were using the expected Carters, Emmons,Mullen and so on.I also noted with great interest that Zums were being used by many top players.the aforementioned top players could probably make any guitar sound good, but given that...Are the Zums gooooood.
I notice too that Peavey came out tops in the "used" amps,the Fender steel king was available but I did'nt see anyone using it.
In conclusion I would say that Zums are the flavour of the month,Does anyone agree

Billy, yes Zums ARE good. "Flavor of the month" doesn't quite do justice to the large presence of professional players using this high quality instrument. Bruce has built this clientel through years of bulding a top quality product and offering the best service after the sale of anyone in the business. And this is not isolated to just the professional players. If I call Bruce right now, the man that built my guitar will answer the phone and spend all the time necessary to help me with whatever the need is. Yes, they are that good!

YOU bet,don't come no better than the ZUMM steel, and Bruce.i owned and played one for 20yrs. fine guitars.and Bruce is always there to help with any problem. can't beat him or his fine guitars. Bruce is the man.\

Zumsteels are among the best made, that's for sure.

As for amps, I think Peavey equips the stage. Most players don't bring their own amps and are happy to use the high quality Peavey amps that have been made available.

i have one and after all those years it's not a mistake i couldn't believe my ears when i first hear and play this brand aswell the mechanical part of this very good and sounded pedalsteel.

Hi! Billy: It was nice to speak with you at the Dallas show. Many top players are looking for the ultimate in tone, pedal feel, mechanics as well as fit and finish. Zum is in a class by itself in all of these areas. One only has to look at the close tolerance of the cabinet to end plates not to mention the high polish. Feel the floor pedals and knee levers. You won't find any sloppy side play. The changer is as good as it gets. The underside is neet and easy to work on. You won't have to keep switching from an allen wrench to a philps screw driver to make adjustments. There are several little things that Zum does that all add up to make Zum the ultimate pedal steel. I am not saying that other brands are not good, I have owned several. You need to sit behind one and you will know right away what I'm talking about.
If you need further proof, just A-B a Zum side by side with the competition. as they say, "The proof is in the pudding" Just my 2 cents.

I own a Mullen and a Zum, and I think they are equally good in terms of manufacturing, quality, tone, looks, mechanism and action. I have George-l's on my Mullen and stock pups on the Zum; lately I like the sound of the Zum better.
We all different, so beauty is in the eye/ear of the beholder.

I love my '79 Zum birdseye maple that plays and sound just incredible! I also have a new Zum Hybrid on order...Bruce is an incredible, intelligent builder who does not and will not compromise quality. He is always thinking of ways to improve his steels, but I can't see how! Thanks Bruce for a great steel.

OK guys,tell you how good they are to me!i been swaping and trading,now have 3 nice sho-buds and a emmons,considering selling off as much as i need to to order a new ZUM, thats how good they are.i just got to own one more Zum in my life. farris

Jeff played a lot of different guitars over the years I knew him, but he did seem to prefer the Zum.

I think you will find Zumsteel to be quite reasonably priced, especially if you consider that if you ever sell it you will likely get most of your money back. If you keep it long enough, you may even make money! Look at the prices some of the older, say 1984 models, have been commanding lately. Never is a big word, but it would be awfully hard to go very wrong with the purchase of a Zumsteel, new or used. Just my admittedly prejudiced (but informed) opinion.

Farris, if Bruce made a model called the "Pozzum" you would have bought it a long time ago.
