I have a '65 Twin Reverb reissue that came with a 4 ohm 15" speaker from the factory. Just curious if anyone has replaced the speaker and if so how did you like it? Looking swap the speaker in there soon and am looking for any input.

Thanks for that link Lane! It was awesome to hear the three amps you have in comparison to one another. Is there only one model they make for the Jensen Mod 15?

I don't know. I'll try to take a look at it for numbers.

Bart...I installed a Black Widow 1501-4 in my '67 Twin, great tone if you do not mind the additional weight.

What's the factory speaker and what don't you like about it?

David I have been wondering what a black widow would sound like in it. I know it wouldn't make it any easier to carry haha.

Tim the factory speaker according to the Fender site is "15" Custom Eminence® with Ceramic Magnet (Based JBL® D130F Speaker Used by Fender® in the '60s and '70s)"

There is just something weak sounding about it when I get the volume around 4 or 5 and lay into it a bit. It breaks up a little if I really get on it with the volume around 4 or 5. I'm playing a D-10 Fessenden with BL 905 pickups into a Hilton VP with the reverb somewhere between 3 and 4. I occasionally will use an Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy delay to beef up the sound a little. With the delay running it seems to help some. Maybe it's the pickups. Or my right hand. Haha. Who knows.

I put a D-130 in the one I had. It was much better.

That speaker has a huge magnet and is built to handle much more power than the 85 watts the amp puts out. I wonder if you might be overdriving the front end of the amp. Have you tried using input #2?
